Stellan Skarsgård, the New Face of the Karlovy Vary Film Festival
The Hollywood Reporter
Last year, Stellan Skarsgård was in the Czech Republic to receive the highest honor award at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. This year, the renowned Swedish actor, nominated for an Oscar for the international Oscar-winning film "Sentimental Value" by Norwegian director Joachim Trier, returns by taking the lead role in promoting the festival. Skarsgård graces the festival's big screens by appearing in this year's KVIFF trailer.
While sharing his experiences working with great names like Lars von Trier and Ingmar Bergman, Skarsgård noted in a special recording for "Awards Chatter" podcast by "The Hollywood Reporter" that such projects are not yet a topic of discussion. However, his participation provides the star power needed for this year's special double anniversary edition of KVIFF. The Karlovy Vary Film Festival is the second oldest film festival in the world.
Joining Skarsgård in the festival's promotion are big names like Johnny Depp, Mel Gibson, and Helen Mirren, who have previously appeared in KVIFF trailers. Viewers learn that this year's trailer has been prepared in the style of Ingmar Bergman by Ivan Zachariás, who has been creating festival trailers for many years. Skarsgård also adds his own style and interpretation to the short film.
The festival's statement said, "Our collection of original festival trailers has been expanded with a micro story featuring Stellan Skarsgård, who won the Crystal Globe award last year for his extraordinary artistic contributions to world cinema." Audiences should prepare for an experience filled with surprises from Skarsgård. You can watch the KVIFF 2026 trailer now.
