The Locarno International Film Festival has announced the program for its 79th edition. This year's competition lineup features the latest film by South Korean director Hong Sang-soo (Right Now, Wrong Then), while the inclusion of Singapore's former Golden Leopard winner Nelson Yeo's (Dreaming & Dying) work is also noteworthy. Additionally, Spanish director Albert Serra's (Afternoons of Solitude) new film will be screened in a non-competitive section.
The festival will take place from August 5 to 15, 2026, and will host new works from American directors Erin Vassilopoulos (Superior) and Vincent Grashaw (Keep Quiet), as well as Senegal's Mamadou Dia (Demba), Portugal's Edgar Pêra (Telepathic Letters), and Canadians Denis Côté (Vic and Flo Saw a Bear) and Wayne Wapeemukwa (Luk’Luk’I).
In the main section of Locarno, Piazza Grande, world premieres, festival favorites of the season, and classics will be showcased. Notable films in this section include Marc Fitoussi's Ni Vue, Ni Connue (All About Corinne) starring Isabelle Huppert, Emmanuelle Bercot, and Diane Kruger, Felix Randau's Ich Ist ein Anderer (I Is Another) featuring Claes Bang and Valerie Pachner, and Dario Albertini's Armony starring Asia Argento and Ornella Muti.
Nelson Yeo stated that returning to Locarno with "The House on the Moon" feels like a moment where the stars have aligned. Yeo said, "A few years ago, this seemed like a dream — but we did it. I'm grateful to my wonderful cast and crew for joining me on this journey." These remarks create an exciting atmosphere for the festival's participants and audience.
