According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ed Sheeran is preparing to sign a recording deal with Interscope. This is seen as the next step in the pop singer's career following the end of his long-standing contract with Warner Music Group. The deal is expected to be long-term, but the number of albums included in the contract has not yet been clarified.

Sheeran has held discussions with major music companies, and it has been reported that Sony has also been in contact with him. Now part of UMG's Interscope, Sheeran joins a roster of artists that includes Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, and Kendrick Lamar. This signing reunites Sheeran with Interscope CEO John Janick, who previously managed Warner's Elektra Records.

Sheeran ranks sixth on Spotify's recently announced list of the most streamed artists of all time, making him one of the most listened-to artists ever. Additionally, his years-long +-=÷X tour is ranked third among the highest-grossing concert tours of all time. After signing with WMG's Asylum and Atlantic labels in the UK in 2011, Sheeran became one of the most recognized artists in the Warner roster.

Sheeran has one of the most successful music catalogs of all time. Warner stated earlier this year that it would continue to hold the rights to his mega hits like "Shape of You," "Thinking Out Loud," and "Bad Habits." However, Sheeran's recent albums have not performed at the same level as his biggest successes, such as X (multiply) and ÷ (Divide). His 2023 album – (Subtract) became the first album since his debut in 2011 not to debut at number one on the Billboard charts.
