Will Ferrell Discusses 'The Hawk' Character's Encounter with Happy Gilmore
The Hollywood Reporter
Will Ferrell brings the character Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins to life in the new Netflix series 'The Hawk'. This character is a lost legend in the world of golf, trying to make a comeback by winning one last major tournament. Ferrell also brought up the potential encounters with Adam Sandler's Happy Gilmore character, alongside the chaos and fun that ensues during this journey.
At the Los Angeles premiere of the series, Ferrell explained to The Hollywood Reporter how The Hawk and Happy might compete against each other on the golf course. Ferrell said, “They both have different approaches. Lonnie is a fan of Happy; they have a great time together, but Lonnie can get into Happy's head.” This statement intriguingly highlights the dynamics and potential interactions between the two characters.
In addition to Ferrell, other cast members of the series also shared their thoughts on this dream matchup. Jimmy Tatro remarked, “I think they will get on each other's nerves. Happy will be frustrated trying to beat The Hawk; playing golf with a character like that is tough.” Luke Wilson added, “They are both wild cards; I think it will be a good match,” comparing it to the showdown between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.
Fortune Feimster mentioned that she opened for Adam Sandler on his stand-up tour when she got her role in The Hawk, and that Sandler said “Awesome!” when he heard about it. However, she emphasized that the characters are very different and stated, “It's funny to see such unusual characters in the world of golf. They will put each other through tough moments, but they will have fun in the process.” These comments make the comedic elements and character interactions of the series even more intriguing.
