After hiding in the shadows for over a decade, the famous Thief video game series made a comeback last year with a new game developed for virtual reality. Titled Thief VR: Legacy of Shadows, this game marked the first adventure not featuring the master thief Garrett from the dark fantasy stealth series. Instead, it tells the story of Magpie, an orphan thief who finds a necklace containing Garrett's spirit. However, there’s good news for those who want to revisit the original anti-hero's mechanical eye. Bit Bot Media is preparing a BackerKit campaign for an officially licensed graphic novel titled Thief: Pulse of Promise, and Collider is exclusively sharing the cover art for the Deluxe Hardcover Edition.

The standard hardcover version of the graphic novel features a design that fits the steampunk-themed world of Thief, while the deluxe version leans towards a more fantastical style. Garrett is depicted wearing his iconic cloak and drawing a bow. This work reflects a similar grim atmosphere to the original illustrations in Thief: The Dark Project and its predecessors, but with Tyler Kirkham's unique touch. The artist, beloved by fans of Marvel and DC, has detailed works in many pieces including Venom from The Amazing Spider-Man, Batman, and Star Wars. Claudio Mastronardi from Diabolik is also designing a cover for the Limited Hardcover Edition to add a different interpretation to Thief.

Pulse of Promise is written by Joshua Viola and Sean Eads. Viola has experience reinterpreting classic games in graphic novel format, such as Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver - The Dead Shall Rise. The story begins in the era before Garrett's Metal Age and kicks off with a heist that seems ordinary at first glance. However, during his work, he will uncover the forgotten secrets of the guardians, a powerful organization made up of the elite minds of the old city, and a mysterious child who could determine the future of the city. Viola noted that as one of the co-owners of Bit Bot, the team is working closely with Eid, the original publisher of Thief.
