While Netflix occasionally offers content that appeals to the broadest audience, it reached the pinnacle of storytelling in 2019 with The Umbrella Academy. Based on the creative graphic novel by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, this series successfully reflects the eccentricities of its source material. Featuring a cast of stars like Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, Robert Sheehan, and Colm Feore, the show provides viewers with an unconventional experience.

However, the series reached a controversial ending in its fourth season, leading to divisions among viewers. The siblings' struggle to prevent the apocalypse ultimately ended on a bleak note, seeming futile. Drawing from the experiences viewers had with the endings of shows like Game of Thrones, it can be said that a bad ending shouldn't overshadow the legacy of the series. The ending of The Umbrella Academy should not overshadow the character depth and story quality of previous seasons.

The show's visual style and sharp dialogue set The Umbrella Academy apart from other content on the platform. The story begins with 43 children born to women who show no signs of pregnancy. Eccentric billionaire Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore) adopts seven of these children, allowing each to develop their unique superpowers.

The first season focuses on the reunion of these adopted siblings after Hargreeves' death. Each one struggles with the issues that come from being raised ruthlessly and they come together as a family to stop the apocalypse. Each season addresses a new ending influenced by the previous apocalypse scenario. However, the second season showcases the show's true potential by sending the characters back to the 1960s, enhancing the emotional depth of the story.
