Supernatural is returning to its roots with a new series focused on Sam and Dean. This paranormal fantasy drama, which has left a mark on the television world for many years, became one of the most enduring genre productions thanks to the incredible chemistry and brotherly bond between Jensen Ackles' Dean Winchester and Jared Padalecki's Sam Winchester. Whether they are hunting folkloric monsters in small towns or rebelling against God, this dynamic duo kept the show alive with a rich and emotional story over 15 seasons.

It's undeniable that the show underwent significant changes in later seasons, especially after its creator and original showrunner Eric Kripke left the project before the 6th season. Initially more episodic in structure, Supernatural gradually transformed into an epic biblical adventure. During this process, the brotherly relationship between Sam and Dean became even more crucial, strengthening the narrative. No matter how powerful the paranormal foes were, this bond always remained at the heart of the story.

The structural changes in the show made sense; if the formula had remained entirely episodic, it didn't seem likely to last this long. The emotional boundaries of the dynamic duo needed to be tested. However, the magic of the earlier seasons could not be overlooked either. It was a joy to see Sam and Dean adapt to each new town and situation, to watch them grow as demon hunters, and to see them find their rhythm as investigative partners. Fortunately, Supernatural's new spinoff story brings fans back to this classic era, reminding them why they loved the show and the Winchester brothers.

The Supernatural universe, like many genre friends, had previously produced comic books as well. Between 2007 and 2012, WildStorm and DC published four multi-part Supernatural stories. These tales enriched the backstories of Sam, Dean, and their father John by taking place before the events of the series. However, that has now changed. Last year, Dynamite Entertainment revived Supernatural with a 10-issue series set between Seasons 1 and 2. The last two issues will be published at the end of this month and at the end of August. Written by Greg Pak, this spinoff story follows Sam and Dean as they travel across the country facing new threats and monsters.
