The Nightingale marks the first film featuring sisters Elle Fanning and Dakota Fanning together, and it has changed its release date. Initially set to premiere on February 12, 2027, it will now meet audiences on March 19, 2027. The project, brought to life by Sony's Tristar studio, believes that the upcoming Easter Week (March 26-28) will serve as a good starting point for the film. Additionally, it aims to provide a female-focused alternative to Paramount's Sonic the Hedgehog 4, which is also set to release on March 19.

This news comes on the heels of Elle and Dakota Fanning winning their Emmy nominations. Elle Fanning was nominated for lead comedy actress in Margo’s Got Money Troubles, while Dakota Fanning received a nomination for supporting actress in a limited series, anthology, or film category for All Her Fault. These achievements stand out as a significant milestone in the Fanning sisters' careers.

The Nightingale tells the story of two sisters trying to survive in Germany and France during World War II. The project began in 2015 when Tristar acquired the rights to author Kristin Hannah's book, and the Fanning sisters joined the project in 2019. Michael Morris directs the film, while Dana Stevens wrote the screenplay.

Last year, Dakota Fanning mentioned in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that the sisters had received offers to share the screen together before but had turned them down. "It was a nice time because we could carve our own paths and discover ourselves when we were younger. Now that we are older, we want to combine everything and experience this together. We haven't even read lines together yet," Dakota Fanning said.
