The last few years have been a rollercoaster for Stephen King fans. They have encountered adaptations that were beloved and others that were disappointing. One of the first retellings of King’s novels, The Running Man, draws attention as a remake of the 1987 action film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Despite the star power of Glen Powell, Josh Brolin, and Colman Domingo, The Running Man was a box office failure but reached a large audience on Paramount Plus. The year 2025 saw HBO Max presenting a beloved adaptation of King’s work with the pioneering series IT: Welcome to Derry, which received an 80% rating from critics and 82% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Following the success of the first season, HBO had to greenlight a second season.

Fans who were not satisfied with King’s latest adaptation often do not have to wait long for the next project. The famous author officially announced that he is preparing a new horror series set to be released by the end of this year. Mike Flanagan is adapting King’s novel Carrie, and while an official release date has not yet been provided, it has been confirmed that the series will meet the audience by the end of this year. Some cast members hinted that the series could premiere in October. This will be the first original Stephen King series to be released on Prime Video after Haven.

The series is expected to create significant excitement among King’s fans. Especially with Flanagan’s previous works, audience expectations are high. While adapting King’s works to film and television has always sparked debates, this new project stands out as a promising development for the author’s fans.
