The year 2026 is quite calm for Denzel Washington. After starring in three films between 2023 and 2025, Washington kicked off his career with The Equalizer 3. He then worked on the long-awaited Gladiator sequel alongside Ridley Scott, which also features Paul Mescal. Last year, he appeared in Apple TV's original crime thriller Highest 2 Lowest; this film is a remake of the famous director Akira Kurosawa's work, High and Low. Later this year, Washington will return to the screen in a new heist film titled Here Comes the Flood, alongside Robert Pattinson and Daisy Edgar Jones. He is also expected to appear in Marvel's third Black Panther film directed by Ryan Coogler, but it seems unlikely that the film will be released before the 2027 Avengers: Secret Wars.

Given that Denzel Washington has starred in numerous films over the years, it’s natural for some projects to be forgotten over time. One of the most overlooked sci-fi films in his career is The Book of Eli, which he worked on in 2010 alongside Ray Stevenson and Gary Oldman. This film carries traces of Sicario and Mad Max. The Book of Eli received a low score of 46% from critics and 65% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, earning $157 million at the box office against an $80 million budget. Sixteen years after its premiere, The Book of Eli is currently not available on any streaming platform, but it has regained some popularity on VOD lists in certain countries on Prime Video and Apple TV.

The film presents a story that challenges viewers to question the difficulties of existing in moral gray areas and survival instincts. The Book of Eli invites audiences to explore ways to survive in a universe filled with hostilities. Such projects hold significant importance in Denzel Washington's career and are expected to reach more viewers over time.
