The Hollywood Reporter
Jennifer Garner, Regina Hall, Chloë Sevigny, Gemma Chan, and D’Arcy Carden come together in the project titled 'The Five Star Weekend'. Based on Elin Hilderbrand’s bestselling novel, the series centers around famous chef Hollis Shaw (Garner), who is known as a food influencer. During a weekend spent in Nantucket, Hollis tries to overcome the grief caused by her husband's death, alongside friends from different periods of her life.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter at the show's Los Angeles premiere, Garner explained her interest in the story with these words: "I had never worked with a group of women before. I always have my best friend or a daughter with me, which I love, but I never had the chance to dive into a story about friendship." Garner noted that the depth and richness of the characters in Elin Hilderbrand’s novel made participating in this project very special for her.
During the filming of the series, Garner had the opportunity to showcase her cooking skills. She mentioned that she demonstrated her cooking abilities through a program called "Pretend Cooking Show" on social media, saying, "It was so much fun to shoot scenes where I knew what I was doing while cooking." Crew members were waiting just off-camera to taste the dishes prepared by Garner.
'The Five Star Weekend' is not just a story about friendship; it also explores themes of coping with loss and rebirth. Garner's experience in this project presents a powerful narrative that highlights women's solidarity and friendships.
