As England advanced to the semifinals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, they hosted the tournament's largest audience. Jude Bellingham's two goals eliminated Norway from the tournament, and 16.8 million viewers watched the 2-1 victory on ITV1.

According to midnight Barb data, ITV's broadcasts reached an average of 12.7 million viewers. The match started at 10:00 PM local time at Miami Stadium, surpassing the 15 million viewer record set during England's opening match against Croatia last month. While this viewership number is quite impressive compared to England's previous World Cup quarterfinal viewership rates, it did not come close to some past match viewership figures.

England's defeat to France in the 2022 World Cup peaked at 21.3 million viewers. In the quarterfinal of the 2018 Russia World Cup, England's match against Sweden, which they won 2-0, was watched by 20 million people.

In the last 16 match of the 2026 World Cup, England's 3-2 victory over Mexico was watched by 9 million Britons in the early morning hours, making it the largest TV audience for a live broadcast between 2:00 AM and 4:00 AM. These results once again highlight the popularity of English football on the international stage.
