Christopher Nolan stated that the online criticisms of his film 'The Odyssey' are "extremely trivial." The Oscar-winning director gave an interview with The Telegraph to address the discussions surrounding this adaptation of Homer's epic. Some casting choices in the film and the use of American accents in the trailers had sparked a wide debate on social media.

Nolan expressed that such discussions occur before the film is watched, making them "always trivial." He noted, "These discussions are conversations made by those who have not yet seen the film," emphasizing that audiences do not have a real understanding of the movie. The director pointed out that viewers' prejudices about the film hinder their ability to grasp its true nature.

Comparing the initial reactions to 'The Odyssey' with those of 'The Dark Knight' trilogy, Nolan mentioned that such critiques can change over time. He said, "When I came to Batman Begins, there were writers and artists who had worked on this beloved character for 65 years," and during this process, he learned the importance of interpreting the original text in the strongest way beyond audience expectations.

The director also recalled the doubts surrounding Heath Ledger's casting as the Joker. At that time, Ledger was known for romantic comedies, and some fans questioned this choice. However, Ledger won an Oscar for his performance, demonstrating how audiences can appreciate genuine effort. Nolan hopes that 'The Odyssey' will embark on a similar journey.
