On the border between this world and the other, 8 million gods, dead spirits serving the gods, and other helper spirits meddle in human affairs. A sweet middle school student named "Hiyori Iki" endures bullying from her classmates and goes to the break room to cry alone. She sees a phone number scrawled on the bathroom wall with the message, "I will solve your problems." After calling the number, she meets a child claiming to be a god, dressed in swim trunks and homeless. This child, named Yato, is rude, grumpy, lazy, and never listens to anyone's requests. However, he possesses the power to be a god, and no one knows it.
