The gaming industry has always been at the center of controversies, but recently, the number of these debates seems to be increasing. The biggest controversy began when PlayStation announced it would stop producing physical game discs starting in 2028. This announcement was not well received by many gamers, and it appears that PlayStation did not anticipate such a strong backlash. In an era where digital media is becoming increasingly prevalent, fans have started to turn back to physical media, and the rate of decline in DVD sales has begun to slow down.

The option for fans to purchase their favorite games physically makes it inevitable that this announcement will disappoint millions. Moreover, Sony's recent removal of hundreds of purchased films from users' digital libraries due to licensing changes has worsened the situation. These developments have prompted big names like the legendary director Hideo Kojima to raise their voices. Kojima is known for the Metal Gear and Death Stranding series.

At the Il Cinema in Piazza Film Festival in Italy, Kojima expressed his disappointment regarding PlayStation's decision, stating, "Production ends in 2028, which is related to video games, but I grew up with physical media, so I find it really sad." He added, "Games are different because they are downloaded to a hard drive; this means the game data will remain on your hardware. However, if everything shifts to streaming in the future, this situation won't change."

Kojima also voiced his concerns about potential future changes, saying, "There are companies that have these servers, and they offer you the option to 'turn on the tap' for a monthly fee. But with nations, policies, and various ways of thinking, you have to consider that if there is a change, the distribution of data could stop. If that happens, you won't be able to watch and play the movies and games you love."
