Changes in the backstory of an important hero in the DC Universe are making Superman's tale even more poignant. This situation heightens the emotional intensity we felt when we first witnessed Superman's events. One of the most intriguing aspects of cinematic universes is how future installments can alter the perception of past ones. This allows for a fresh experience for viewers even years later.

It seems that the DCU has embraced this approach. Indeed, such changes occurred multiple times even in the early days of the franchise. For example, Creature Commandos and Peacemaker Season 2 provided a deep expansion on the characters and events established in The Suicide Squad. This illustrates how certain scenes from the 2021 film have gained different meanings over time.

The second film in the main DCU timeline, Supergirl, delves deeper into the world, revealing the altered backstory of a significant DC hero. These changes allow some moments in Superman to become more emotional. Krypto's backstory was rewritten to strengthen his ties with Superman. The Supergirl set for 2026 shows that Krypto is a puppy found on the street by Kara on the day of her mother's funeral. This makes Krypto's past even more emotional.

However, what is noteworthy is that Krypto's time as the family dog on Krypton is not the same as depicted in classic comics and the new backstory. Kara's mother passed away after the destruction of Krypton, so Krypto joins the family under more challenging circumstances, before meeting Clark. This makes Superman's decision to rescue Krypto even more emotional. Knowing that Krypto transitioned from crisis to crisis throughout his life enhances the significance of this rescue act.
