Dwayne Johnson Says It's "Not Too Early" for Live Action 'Moana'
The Hollywood Reporter
The animated film Moana was a huge success ten years ago, and now a live-action version of the film has been released. While Disney typically waits between 20 to 90 years to adapt its animated classics, the quick turnaround for Moana is noteworthy. Additionally, considering that the animated Moana 2 was released less than two years later, this situation becomes even more intriguing.
Dwayne Johnson, who voiced the character Maui in the animated film and is now taking on the role in live action, stated that bringing Moana to life quickly is "an easy conversation." Johnson mentioned that Disney presented him with this idea in 2019, saying, "I think the themes and values of this story can be conveyed very well through a real person and a young girl going through this process."
The film's director, Thomas Kail, who directed the original production of Hamilton, believes that a decade is a sufficient amount of time between films. "Kids who were 7 years old back then are now 17, and those who were 10 are now 20. This means significant changes in our lives," Kail emphasized, noting that people's connections to this film have been revived with the release of Moana 2. He also added that, coming from theater, they are constantly doing revivals.
