2026 has been a huge year for God of War fans, even though it's fast approaching four years since the launch of God of War: Ragnarök. All the way back in February, Santa Monica announced that it was working on a full remake of the original God of War trilogy, which will give fans a chance to relive Kratos’ conquest of the Greek pantheon. Just last month, at one of PlayStation’s most anticipated State of Play events in history, Santa Monica closed out the showcase by unveiling 20 minutes of interrupted gameplay footage from the first God of War spin-off game, God of War Laufey, which will be centered around Kratos’ late wife. The game still does not have an official release date, but it’s likely to launch sometime in 2027. One of the best characters to come out of the God of War Norse trilogy was Thor, the God of Thunder voiced by Ryan Hurst. Hurst was attached to play Kratos in Prime Video’s live-action God of War series, but last week it was announced that he was being recast after suffering a torn pec sustained during a stunt. Hurst brought a much different take on the character than fans had seen from Chris Hemsworth’s portrayal in the MCU, playing a much more complicated figure more accurate to Norse mythology. It was even announced over the weekend that Thor from God of War: Ragnarök is getting a brand-new figure courtesy of Prime1Studio, which is now available for pre-order for $1,599. The new figure is expected to ship between November 2026 and February 2027, and it will be 1/3 scale. It has yet to be confirmed if Thor will have a role in God of War Laufey, but there is an outlet for him to return that would make sense in the established lore. God of War Laufey takes place in Everywhen, which is an afterlife of the gods. Laufey is even seen battling Begtse, the Mongolian God of War, who is working with Sekhmet, the Egyptian God of War. Thor may be the God of Thunder and not the God of War, but he was killed by his father Odin at the end of Ragnarök, and he could have been transported to the Everywhen upon his death if there were no Valkyries to escort him to Valhalla.
