The Earth is under attack by an alien menace known as the Boazanian Forces. A special group of people who have been properly trained to deal with this kind of emergency pilots the Voltes V robot to fight and defend humanity.

Hrothgar demonstrates his capabilities with his impressive inventions and generous demeanor and is soon selected to be the next ruler of Boazania. However, Zambojil, the son of the late emperor, becomes determined to prevent this from happening.

Hrothgar and slave rebels battle the Boazanian soldiers. Before they are captured, the rebels aid Hrothgar's escape with his airship. He pledges to return and rescue the rebels from the empire.

Mary Ann gives Hrothgar a new name, Ned Armstrong. They soon fall in love and have two sons, Steve and Big Bert. Meanwhile, Ned and the Earth's leaders build Camp Big Falcon, the base for the powerful robot Voltes V.
