The Ottoman army attacked Constantinople with the Şahi cannon, creating a breach at the St. Romanos Gate. Despite heavy resistance and losses from Byzantine defenders, the Ottomans continued their advance. The battle's outcome would decide if Constantinople would become Istanbul.
