On the way driving to the scene of murder of a club girl, senior inspector CHUNG DIK KI collides his car with that of the research chemist CHUNG YUEN WAH, much to his frustration. KAI TANG decides to catch the criminal with bare hands but is shot instead. DIK KI protects and saves him. The police arrives at the scene and arrests the criminals. Disappointed and frustrated, KA ME! decides to go to Taiwan to develop her singing career, leaving her husband and daughter behind. Upon leaving, KA MEI cannot find her passport, thinks that DIK KI has takes it away, thus goes to annoy him and causes much disturbances at the police station. Later she discovers that it is YIK LING who takes the passport away so her mother cannot leave her. KA MEI feels sorry but she still keeps her decision and leaves. DIK KI gets very depressed which affects his work and he misses the chance of getting promoted, much to deepen his sorrow. After much effort, DIK KI finds a taxi driver, LEE YUET KAM, to be a suspect and arrests him. ,Though there are supporting evidences, DIK KI lacks the crucial ones to charge KAM. Just when DIK KI buries himself in work to cover his sorrow, he receives the lawyer's letter from hi~ wife asking to separate with him. DIK KI thus feels much depressed. KAI TANG comforts him and he decides to put aside his sorrow.… ...
KAI TANG takes the excuse to cheer DIK KI up and organizes a barbecue. His real purpose is to get close to YUEN WAH whom he finally manages to have a date with.
KAI TANG and YUEN WAH go to the scene to investigate and discover an insane man with strange behaviour. After much interrogation, KAI TANG and YUEN WAH reveal that the man felt so annoyed by the baby's crying that in a rage threw it into the street. WEI FUN proves her innocence, but on the other hand BAK KAM grows more jealous of KAI TANG. Knowing that DIK KI refuses to sign the agreement to separate with her, KAI MEI returns to Hong Kong to ask for a divorce. Realizing that he cannot save his marriage, DIK KI tries hard to win his daughter’s custody.
DIK KI suffers from failure in his marriage and feels very depressed. YUEN WAH comforts him and tells him about her hardships in childhood. DIK KI is enlightened and the two know more about each other. KAI TANG is jealous of YUEN WAH getting along well with DIK KI and interferes her freedom. Annoyed, YUEN WAH rejects to go out with KAI TANG who then seeks for CHUI FUNG’s advice to please her. CHUI FUNG tell KAI TANG to be patient. KA MEI gives time to DIK KI to play with YIK LING. Occupied with work, DIK KI asks CHUI FUNG to take care of her daughter. Playing for the whole night, YIK LING forgets to revise her lessons. Discovered to have cheated in class, YIK LING is detained after school. When peeping others at night using his binoculars, FAI perchance witnesses a murder but he is afraid to report it. Guilty conscious, FAI finally supplies clues to the police.… ...
Occupied with work, DlK Kl asks for YUEN WAH's favour o take care of YIK LING but she has fallen ill out ‧of over anxious about her cheating in class. DIK KI feels that he cannot afford the time to take care of YIK LING and decides to give up her custody. Later he finds that KA MEI has already taken YIK LING to stay with her in Taiwan, much t6 his sorrow. YUEN WAH comforts DIK KI and gives him much concern. Touched, DlK KI grows fond of YUEN WAH but since he has not recovered from his sorrow, he dares not start another love. LEUNG KWONG finds a wallet in a taxi and realizes that it belongs to his neighbour, CHENG MUI CHIN. KWONG returns it to CHING and the two have a nice chat. Being a widow at her middle age and left with a considerable amount of money, MUI CHING feels lonely and is delighted. to have someone talk to her. The two quickly become friends. All along CHENG TAK LUNG does not have a legitimate profession.… ...
To repay PO, LEUNG KWONG asks DIK KI to look for AH SAI and locates him. KWONG takes PO to meet AH SAI but they have been followed by BAK KAM who then sends men to arrest AH SAI. BAK KAM has once had dispute with LEUNG KWONG so he purposely makes excuse to detain him. MUI CHING gets him released on ball.
Though released, LEUNG KWONG loses his job at the restaurant. Feeling hurt, KWONG purposely avoids DIK KI and MUI CHINS. LEUNG KWONG indulges himself but after DIK KI's encouragement, he regains his self-confidence. LEUNG KWDNG wishes to open a snack shop but finds no access. MUI CHING gives him support, asking TAK LUNG to give him a hand. TAK LUNG is afraid that LEUNGKWONG would reveal his secret of dealing drugs and rejects to help him. Not wanting to discourage LEUNG KWONG, MUI CHING joins LEUNG KWONG in partnership. ' KAI TANG makes use of his birthday to date YUEN WAH. Not wanting to be alone with KAI TANG, YUEN WAH invites the colleagues to come along, much to disappoint KAI TANG.
SIU MEI takes her first job as an insurance broker. One day, she goes to PETER's firm and PETER, who is attracted to her, tempts her by a prized watch to get close to her. Yielding to vanity, SIU MEI gets on with him.
SIU MEI sues PETER and the matter is brought before the court. Because of insufficient evidences, PETER remains out of the law's reach. SIU MEI receives the blow and nearly suffers from nervous break-down.
DIK KI takes his courage and reveals his love for YUEN WAH who feels greatly touched, their relationship becomes more intimate.
HING WING appreciates KAI TANG’s ability and persuades him to join his underworld organizatiori. Yielding to vanity, KAI TANG agrees. KAI TANG feels relieved when he sees that SIU MEI gets along well with KWOK MAN. However, he pities on himself and feels more lonely. DIK KI has to look into several cases of jewelry robbery and managest to have KAI TANG back to assist him, KAI TANG finds much complications in the cases and suspects that HING WING is involved.
Afraid that DIK KI would reunite with KA MEI, YUEN WAH is caught in a dilemma and purposely avoids DIK KI. KA MEI invites YUEN WAH to YIK LING’s birthday party but teases her in front of others and hints to her that she would reunite with DIK KI. Embarrassed and frustrated, YUWN WAH leaves the scene.
YUEN WAH arranges DlK KI to meet TAK LUNG. DIK KI recognies TAK LUNG to be a suspect and asks YUEN WAH about him. YUEN WAH claims to know nothing of it.
PANG KWAI makes ambush outside DIK KI's house and shoots him on his return. DIK KI is alert and even takes the move to chase KWAI. Flees in panic and hurt by DIK KI's shot, KWAI holds a passer-by in hostage, grabs a taxi, and slips away. Hurt seriously, PANG KWAI seeks help from LEUNG KWONG who then goest to look afterhim, not knowing that DIK KI has sent his man to follow him. LEUNG KWONG asks DIK KI to give u; suing KWAI. To uphold justice, DIK KI is determined to arrest KWAI. d to arrest KWAI.
Finding no way out, PANG KWAI demands a large sum of money from HING WING. Making use of KAI TANG's grudge against KWAI, HING WING asks KAI TANG to meet KWAI at the jpark and negotiate with him. DIK KI and hisfamily happen to be at eht scen. KWAI directs his gun to DIK KI. KAI TANG takes a chance and shoots KWAI to death.
DIK KI is afraid that YUEN WAH would act rashly and destroy his plan once learning of TAK LUNG’s crime, thus asks to break up with her for the time being. YUEN WAH is greatly puzzled.
HING WING sends KAI TANG to receive weapons smuggling from overseas.‧ DIK KI gets information ahead of time and manages to get all the weapons. HING WING suspects that among them there is an insider working for the police and orders KAI TANG to::o find that out. To test KAI TANG, DIK KI purposely reveals to him that HUNG CHUNG is the insider. KAI TANG takes acti6n and is caught red~handed by DIKKI. KAI TANG decides to turn. on a new leaf and agrees to be the insider, gathering HING WING's evidences of crime. HING WING makes use of KAI TANG's position to have hisman ALAN killing one of his enemies. To avoid being sspected, KAI TANG helps readily. Howeverm he fails to grasp HING WING’s evidences of crime.
KWOK MAN finds that KAI TANG gets along with HING WING and mistakes the two to be working together. After KAI TANG's explanation, KWOK MAN offers to be the contact between KAI TANG and DIK KI KAI TANG secretly hides a tape recorder afround his body and records HING WING’s talk with another man of the underworld. KAI TANG then passes the tape to KWOK MAN to take it to DIK KI. HING WING’s man, AH TUNG, discovers their act and decides to grab the tape. DIK KI comes along in time to stop AH TUNG and gets back the tape. DIK KI forces AH TUNG to work with the police and finally manages to catch HING WING red-handed. Though got hurt by KING WING's shot, KAI TANG feels much relieved now that the criminal is caught. CHUI FUNG sees that DIK KI has finished his job and persuades him to reunite with YUEN WAH.
