Happu Singh and his wife Rajjo’s time together is often interrupted by their nine kids and his Amma, mother, a cunning lady who claims to communicate with her dead husband. Stressed due to taking care of her large brood, Rajjo wishes for a holiday in Agra to de-stress. Throwing a wrench in their plans, Amma informs them about the imminent arrival of Happu’s uncle, Adveer. While Rajjo is adamant about going to Agra, Amma warns Happu with dire consequences if he and Rajjo leave.

Happu Singh cribs about his marital woes to his friend, Beni Prasad. When Rajesh invites her mom to Kanpur for her treatment, Amma tries to discourage her. When Rajesh doesn’t relent, she calls Happu to stop his mother-in-law’s visit as it will coincide with her brother’s. Poor Happu gets stuck between doing right by his wife as well as his mother. He asks his fashionista-cum-English-obsessed daughter, Katori a.k.a Kat, to help him, while his other daughter, Chamchi, eavesdrops.

Chamchi informs Amma about Happu and Kat’s conspiracy to stop Rajesh’s mother as well as Adveer's Mama’s visit. Hrithik, Happu’s son, who overhears Amma and Chamchi, informs Rajesh about Happu’s plan. As per Happu’s plan, Kat tells Amma and Rajesh that a crowded house will prevent her from studying for her exams. In front of Kat, Amma and Rajesh falsely agree to postpone their respective relatives from coming to Kanpur. However, they have no plans of following through on their promise.

When Amma confidently informs Chamchi of Adveer’s arrival, Hrithik listens in and informs the same to Rajesh. Hearing this, Rajesh also confirms her mother’s visit to Kanpur. Knowing that a battle awaits him at home, Happu is reluctant to return. Malaika, Happu’s wrestling-obsessed daughter, helps him scale the wall of their house, but Happu falls down and injures himself. The next morning, Happu is stunned upon knowing that Amma and Rajesh lied about their respective relative’s visit.

Rajesh tells Happu about her wish to celebrate her upcoming birthday lavishly. Though Happu agrees momentarily, he worries about Amma’s reaction as Pitaji, Happu’s father, died on the same day as Rajesh’s birthday. The next morning, Happu approaches Amma for permission to celebrate Rajesh’s birthday. But, before Happu could say anything, Amma puts forth her wish to organise a prayer meeting for her husband on his death anniversary.

Rajesh becomes angry on Happu for failing to take permission to celebrate her birthday from Amma. Stuck between Rajesh’s wish to celebrate her birthday and Amma’s desire to hold a prayer meeting on Pitaji’s death anniversary, Happu asks Beni for help. Beni tells Happu to sneak out from the temple during Pitaji’s prayer meeting to celebrate Rajesh’s birthday. Amma, who comes to know of Happu’s plan to throw Rajesh a birthday party, vows to ruin it.

Amma uses cunning tactics to ensure Happu agrees to organise a prayer meeting for her husband’s death anniversary. Hrithik, who had eavesdropped on their conversation, reiterates everything to Rajesh. To convince an angry Rajesh, Happu promises to hold the prayer meeting as well as the celebration for her birthday. Happu informs his kids to keep Rajesh’s birthday celebration a secret from Amma and Chamchi. Finally, the day of Rajesh’s birthday and Pitaji’s death anniversary arrives.

By entrusting Beni with the responsibility of arranging the birthday cake and snacks, Happu leaves for work to arrange gifts for Rajesh without Amma’s interference. During the prayer meeting, Amma catches Beni sneaking in with Rajesh’s birthday cake, but Happu handles the situation tactfully. While Amma becomes engrossed in the prayer meeting, Rajesh and Happu sneak out to celebrate her birthday. Soon, their children and friends join the celebration as well.

Leaving Amma and Chamchi, Happu, Rajesh, their kids and friends begin celebrating Rajesh’s birthday. When Amma notices their absence, Happu makes excuses to distract Amma and re-joins the celebrations. Feeling suspicious, Chamchi peeps in the house through the window and sees everyone dancing and celebrating. She takes Amma inside, effectively putting an end to the merriment. Amma soon realises her mistake and herself joins in the celebrations for Rajesh’s birthday.

Rajesh and Happu make plans to celebrate the upcoming festival of ‘Holi’. Speaking with Pitaji’s ghost, Amma reminisces about their past ‘Holi’ celebrations. While celebrating ‘Holi’ early, Happu’s younger kids drench Beni with water and make fun of his romantic feelings towards Rajesh’s sister – Vimlesh. When Amma and Rajesh get into an argument, it escalates to the level that Amma puts a ban on celebrating ‘Holi’. Happu’s attempts to mediate the dispute between them fails.

In a game of truth and dare, Chamchi dares Ranbir to play ‘Holi’ with her. The kids secretly enjoy the festival away from Rajesh’s and Amma’s prying eyes, but Malaika catches them in the act. To outwit Amma and Rajesh, Happu suggests them to allow the family to celebrate ‘Diwali’ instead of ‘Holi’. Though Amma and Rajesh initially dismiss Happu’s idea, they agree in the end. Finally, the day of ‘Holi’ arrives and Happu’s family makes preparations to celebrate ‘Diwali’ instead.

Amma and Rajesh try to outdo each other while preparing sweets for ‘Diwali’. Happu and the kids feel dejected to be celebrating ‘Diwali’ instead of ‘Holi’. Surprising everyone, Rajesh and Amma bury their dispute and start celebrating ‘Holi’. Happy at the turn of events, the kids join their neighbours in the festivities. The next morning, chaos ensues when the news of Ranbir failing in the sixth-grade breaks. Amma and Happu blame Rajesh for Ranbir’s inadequate academic performance.

Rajesh comes across Happu’s sixth-grade mark sheet and realises that he too had failed in his sixth-grade. She becomes enraged as Happu had lied about being an exceptional student. She calls him at work and vows to take revenge upon him when he returns. She informs Amma about Happu’s duplicity as well. During dinner-time, Rajesh asks Happu to re-take the sixth-grade tests alongside Ranbir to prove his credibility. To gain an upper hand over Rajesh, Amma commands Happu to pass in the tests.

Happu tries to pacify Rajesh but fails. The next day, Kat is entrusted with the responsibility to set the test paper for Hrithik and Happu. The fear of failing makes Happu ask Beni for help. Beni promises to have a solution for him by evening. Amma calls Happu at work and reminds him to study well, and also warns him of dire consequences if he fails. Rajesh helps Hrithik study for the test and is left surprised by his preparation. Beni suggests Happu to cheat in the test.

Amma encourages Happu to cheat in the test. He requests Kat to leak the question paper. When Kat doesn’t relent, Happu attempts to bribe her but Malaika intervenes and takes Kat away. Eventually, Happu tries to get out of giving the test but Amma stops him. To help Ranbir score more marks than Happu, Rajesh asks Hrithik to capture a picture of the test paper set by Kat. Happu also requests Chamchi to do the same for him. With Amma’s encouragement, Chamchi agrees to do Happu’s bidding.

When Hrithik and Chamchi search Kat’s room to click a picture of the test paper, Malaika catches them and sends them away. She also warns Rajesh and Happu from cheating again. Beni gives Happu some laxatives so that he can evade giving the test. During the test, Happu waits for the laxative’s effect to kick-in. However, Amma and Rajesh scrap the test after putting their juvenile feud away. Happu is left to face the consequences of his actions.

Beni predicts that Amma may fall prey to a deadly attack. An insurance agent informs Amma that she is liable to receive INR 25 lakhs. Not much later, seeing Amma’s medical reports, Rajesh tells Happu to do something about Amma’s increasing blood sugar. Amma, who overhears a part of their conversation, interprets that Happu is conspiring with Rajesh to kill her to get his hands on her money. When Rajesh mixes a sugar-control medicine in her food, Amma feels she is trying to poison her.

Amma calls the police helpline and complaints about her son and daughter-in-law trying to poison her. When she realises that it is Happu who had received her call, she hangs up. When Rajesh serves lunch to her, she refuses to consume it fearing it may contain poison. As Rajesh adamantly insists her to have lunch, she lies about having eaten it already. While Happu asks a doctor for remedies to lower Amma’s blood sugar, Kamlesh tries to trap a rat but fails miserably.

Amma fears that the ‘halwa’ served to her is laced with poison. Her fear strengthens when Happu prohibits his kids from eating the ‘halwa’. When Happu force-feeds it to her, she discreetly spits it out. When Amma sees a person holding a knife in his hand, she starts shouting and running. Happu, who only wanted Amma to run as a form of exercise to lower her blood sugar, is beaten and chased out of the house by his kids.

Rajesh tries to hide the fact that the person who broke into their house was Happu himself. To explain his injured state, Happu lies about being beaten by the perpetrator. However, Amma catches Happu’s lie and her fear strengthens. She confides her trouble in an unlikely source and asks for help. The next morning, she calls a ‘pundit’ to their house to predict her future. Meanwhile, Happu once again asks the doctor to suggest some other remedy to help lower Amma’s blood sugar.

Happu once again attacks Amma with a knife to make her run. He is beaten and chased away by Beni and his children. Amma decides to confront Happu and Rajesh directly.

Amma’s misunderstanding regarding Happu and Rajesh is solved. Later, Amma expresses her wish to participate in a dance competition organised in the neighbourhood.

Happu is stuck making a choice to participate in the dance competition with Amma or Rajesh. The police commissioner instructs Happu to find his lost phone.

Amma and Rajesh battle over who should participate in the dance competition with Happu. Happu lies about breaking his leg to fool the police commissioner.

Happu and his family try to convince the commissioner of his injury. When Kat’s phone trapped in the fake plaster worn by Happu starts ringing, the commissioner becomes suspicious.

Happu’s lie is inadvertently exposed due to Kat and Kamlesh’s antics. Malaika apprises the commissioner of the reality. The commissioner gives a surprising punishment to Happu.

Happu promises to save Rajesh if she were ever in a sinking ship with Amma. To pacify Amma, he promises to save her. Hrithik informs Rajesh about Happu and Amma’s conversation.

Happu tries to pacify an angry Rajesh. The next morning, when Beni tells Rajesh that Happu will save himself and not her and Amma from a sinking Ship, Rajesh’s anger increases.

Amma and Rajesh put an end to the feud between them. Both the ladies also praise Happu for his display of bravery and loyalty in the face of a trying situation.

Amma and Rajesh get into a tussle over who amongst them has the best sense of humour. Happu laughs at both their jokes to keep the matter from escalating.
