Universal's two most anticipated remakes have changed their release dates. "Miami Vice '85", starring Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler, has been moved to May 19, 2028, taking the previously announced release date of "The Mummy". The film "The Mummy", featuring the return of Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, is set to hit theaters on October 15, 2027.
Directed by Radio Silence's Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, "The Mummy" will present the original ancient Egyptian theme from a modern perspective. Brendan Fraser's return as Imhotep has created significant anticipation among franchise fans. Rachel Weisz's return as Evelyn Carnahan has excited lovers of the classic films.
Meanwhile, "Miami Vice '85" will be under the direction of Joseph Kosinski, known for "F1" and "Top Gun: Maverick". The film will begin shooting later this year and will be filmed in IMAX format. It was originally scheduled for release in August 2027, but the date has been postponed due to the scope of the production.
Universal will not leave the August 2027 date empty and will replace it with an undisclosed event film. The studio has also scheduled a new Blumhouse production for a wide release on October 8, 2027. These date changes indicate that both projects are high-budget and technically complex productions.
