Thousands of years ago, a forbidden love affair unfolds between the high priest Imhotep and the pharaoh's favorite, Anck-Su-Namun, in Egypt. However, when their love is revealed, the consequences are horrific. As Anck-Su-Namun commits suicide, Imhotep is buried alive through a ritual called Hom-Dai in the City of the Dead, Hamunaptra. In 1923, American adventurer Rick O'Connell guides British siblings Evelyn and Jonathan Carnahan to find Hamunaptra. Unbeknownst to them, they awaken a terrible curse, and Imhotep is resurrected. With Imhotep's return, they must confront dark forces that threaten the world.
