In the official trailer for Spider-Noir, Nicolas Cage faces off against Brendan Gleeson's supervillain
The Hollywood Reporter
The official trailer for Spider-Noir, a drama series adapted from the Spider-Man universe by Prime Video, presents Oscar-winning Nicolas Cage as an aging and unfortunate private detective in 1930s New York. Cage portrays Ben Reilly, a character who lived his past as the city's one and only superhero, and in the trailer, he encounters an Irish crime boss (Brendan Gleeson) while discovering his powers. Gleeson's character plays the villain Silvermane from the comics. This marks the first time the Oscar-winning actor has taken the lead role in a TV series project. The trailer was showcased at the pop culture festival CCXPMX26 held in Mexico City.
Spider-Noir offers a unique viewing experience in its presentation: the series can be watched in two different formats, "Original Black-and-White" and "Full Color True-Hue." The original comics were designed with muted and monochromatic coloring, and this re-presentation preserves that historical aesthetic feel.
Although the project is inspired by the Spider-Man Noir comic, it has been developed as an independent story and is not part of Sony's cinematic universe or the Spider-Verse films. The cast includes names like Lamorne Morris (Fargo), Li Jun Li (Sinners), Karen Rodriguez (The Hunting Wives), Abraham Popoola (Slow Horses), Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire), and Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin).
The series is directed by Harry Bradbeer, the successful director of Fleabag, who has also directed and produced the first two episodes. Oren Uziel (The Lost City) and Steve Lightfoot (The Punisher) are the co-showrunners and producers of the project. Uziel and Lightfoot have collaborated with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal, who were involved in the production of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, during the writing process of the series.
Spider-Noir will premiere on Prime Video on May 27, with all episodes released on the same day. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television for MGM+ and Prime Video.
