There can never be too many thrillers in Hollywood. The industry offers multiple ways to keep audiences on the edge of their seats. Classics like The Silence of the Lambs, Fargo, and Pulp Fiction, despite their different styles, all provide the same adrenaline rush in cinema. Over the last twenty years, the thriller genre has modernized and begun to reflect societal anxieties. Each decade brings new fears and pressures; these often turn into high-risk situations that test the human spirit.

The Raid: Redemption sends police officer Rama (Iko Uwais) on a raid of a high-rise apartment controlled by crime lord Tama Riyadi (Ray Sahetapy). Each floor of the building is ruled by criminals, forcing the residents to obey to survive. When the cover is blown, the team falls into a trap and must fight their way through waves of armed attacks to reach the top. Fighting inside enclosed buildings creates a claustrophobic feeling; once the team passes through the doors, there’s no way out. In narrow corridors, chainsaw-wielding assailants can leap at you at any moment.

Shutter Island follows U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) as he investigates the disappearance of a patient from Ashecliffe Hospital. Drawn there for personal reasons, Teddy suspects the doctors of engaging in dark practices. When key documents are denied, Teddy continues the investigation; as a hurricane isolates the island, dangerous patients are set free and clues multiply. Teddy begins to question his memory and sanity. The isolation of being trapped on an island in a mental health facility affects the mind; when he gets dizzy, it becomes difficult to distinguish reality from imagination. Along with claustrophobia, Teddy's senses are tested as terrifying hallucinations haunt him.

In the film No Other Choice, unemployment drives people to desperate jobs. Paper craftsman Man-su (Lee Byung-hun) loses his job when he takes over the company. After struggling to find work in the industry for over a year, Man-su faces increasing financial pressure on his family. When he sees an opportunity at a rival company, he will do whatever it takes to eliminate the other candidates and secure his future.
