Sharon Horgan shared important insights about the upcoming HBO series Youth and its star power at the KVIFF Industry Days program during the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. Horgan took the stage immediately after a session with The Sopranos creator David Chase at the festival's 60th edition. During this event focused on HBO, she faced a business question regarding the impact of Paramount Skydance's acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery on HBO.
In response to this situation, Horgan said, "Who knows?" and expressed her hope that HBO would remain unchanged. "It's an iconic brand. The best premium broadcaster. Why would you want to interfere with that?" she stated. Director and cinematographer Andrij Parekh, who shares similar thoughts, added, "I hope they don't touch it with their minds." The duo came together for a panel discussion titled "Cinema Series: Storytelling in the Streaming Age."
An audience member asked Horgan if the third season of the Apple TV series Bad Sisters would return, and Horgan did not completely rule it out. "Maybe in the future, at some point - I always have story ideas," she said. However, she emphasized that her current focus is on the HBO series Youth. Horgan noted that the show contains autobiographical elements that inspire her.
She explained that the series addresses a period referred to as the "sandwich generation," depicting a life stage where parents are aging and children refuse to leave home. Horgan raised the question, "How do you take care of yourself while looking after everyone else?" and announced that the series will premiere in September. Parekh also provided information about his current Netflix series The Retrievals, revealing that it tells the true story of a nurse at Yale hospital.
