Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh return to the Cold War era in the first trailer for their new action comedy film, Mayday. Reynolds plays U.S. Navy pilot Troy "Assassin" Kelly, while Branagh portrays Nikolai Ustinov, a Soviet citizen who is a fan of freedom, democracy, and Top Gun. The duo will have to work together to escape the Soviet Union and prevent the Cold War from escalating into a hot conflict. The film will premiere exclusively on Apple TV on September 4.
In the trailer, Kelly is shot down over Soviet airspace in 1987 and parachutes into the cold Russian landscape after his plane is engulfed in flames. By chance, he encounters Nikolai, who has the knowledge to treat Kelly's injured leg. Not only does Nikolai bandage Kelly's wounds, but thanks to his passion for American pop culture, he has no intention of turning him over to Soviet authorities. The two embark on a long journey, partnering up to get Kelly back to friendly territory while evading the Red Army.
Mayday offers a chaotic adventure accompanied by Neil Diamond's song "America." This journey filled with planes, trains, and automobiles highlights the duo's struggle for survival and their friendship. The energy of the trailer and the dynamics between the two promise viewers an entertaining and thrilling experience.
