Nicolas Cage stars as a live-action actor for the first time in the Spider-Noir series, produced for Prime Video and MGM+. Set to premiere in May 2025, the series centers around Ben Reilly, a secret super detective in 1930s New York. The new trailer, showcased last month at the CCXP Mexico event, impressively depicts the complex and dangerous world of Cage's character.

The trailer presents a New York City that looks like it’s come straight out of classic noir films. Ben Reilly is portrayed as the archetype of a failed detective; his past is chaotic, his monologues lengthy, and his tragedy profound. Particularly haunted by the ghost of his wife’s death, the character struggles to leave his past behind and aims to become a true protector for society. The threats he encounters during his investigation draw him into dark places that Spider-Man adaptations have never dared to explore before.

The gallery of villains in the series has become even more menacing in this gritty noir setting. Leading the pack is Oscar-nominated Brendan Gleeson as Silvermane; this character presents a strange order amidst chaos as a crime boss. Additionally, characters like Jack Huston’s Sandman/Flint Marko and Abraham Popoola’s Tombstone/Lonnie Lincoln are also featured. Particularly interesting is Andrew Caldwell’s portrayal of Megawatt/Dirk Leydon, making his cinematic debut and dramatically capturing Ben with electrical energy. The trailer also includes a terrifying scene where Man-Spider bites Reilly’s arm.

Spider-Noir emerges as an adaptation from the darkest corners of Marvel’s gritty and tough history. Nicolas Cage’s performance and the series' noir atmosphere promise to explore unseen aspects of Spider-Man.
