The Hollywood Reporter
Jinny Howe, Netflix's head of scripted series for the US and Canada, will be a keynote speaker at the upcoming Banff World Media Festival. Joining Netflix in 2018, Howe has played a significant role in developing successful series such as Bridgerton and Inventing Anna from Shondaland, as well as Beef, The Night Agent, The Diplomat, and Untamed.
After succeeding Peter Friedlander in the top position for North American drama series last year, Howe will be part of the Banff Summit Series program. Sean Cohan, chair of the Banff board and president of Bell Media, stated that Howe's leadership has helped shape stories that resonate with audiences worldwide. Cohan emphasized that Howe's work represents the creativity, innovation, and global perspective defined by the festival, expressing eagerness for attendees to hear her insights firsthand.
Upcoming projects from Howe include a new interpretation of Little House on the Prairie, the limited series The Altruists starring Julia Garner, and the sports comedy The Hawk featuring Will Ferrell. Festival organizers have announced that they will reveal additional keynote speakers in the coming weeks.
The 47th Banff World Media Festival, taking place in the Canadian Rockies from June 14-17, will feature past Summit Series speakers including Chuck Lorre, Anjali Sud, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Paula Kerger, Rob Wade, Pearlena Igbokwe, Bela Bajaria, Keith Le Goy, Ted Sarandos, and Maverick Carter. It has also been announced that Spain is this year's Country of Honor.
This year's television festival will once again combine the Banff Gala Awards and the Rockie Awards international competition to celebrate industry talent and TV series in one event.
