'My Friend the Porn Star' is a documentary that approaches sexuality with a positive perspective, yet does not carry the characteristics of pornography. German director and actress Rosa Friedrich embarks on a journey to create a type of film, narrating the story of reaching a different outcome. The initial idea of the film is based on Rosa filming her friend Timo as he fulfills his sexual desires with various women. However, the artistic visions of the duo differ, and Timo suddenly leaves Rosa in the middle of the production.

To complete the project and ensure her own satisfaction, Rosa uses deepfake technology to add an actor's head to previously filmed footage of Timo. Thus, we can see Timo's real body, but the head is covered with a pixelated box of the chosen actor. This creative approach makes the documentary both entertaining and thought-provoking.

The film is enriched with short films that explore the sexual understandings of different women. Various participants, including a dominatrix, a non-binary food porn producer, and three trans women, share what they find erotic. Throughout this process, Rosa addresses the entire spectrum of sexuality while offering viewers a psychological perspective.

As a result, Rosa Friedrich has managed to create a more interesting production than the film Timo envisioned. By the end of the documentary, viewers can see the joy experienced by the participants as they share their own stories, creating a connection with this experience. 'My Friend the Porn Star' stands out as a remarkable production for future festivals after its screening at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival.
