On a bright Friday afternoon in San Diego, DC Comics unveiled the new trailer for the Lanterns series. Based on the mythology of the Green Lantern Corps, this new show will premiere next month on HBO. Samantha Coley from Collider was there to report on this exciting development at San Diego Comic Con.
The series centers around two human members of the intergalactic peacekeeping force, the Green Lantern Corps: seasoned pilot Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and thoughtful former marine John Stewart (Aaron Pierre). As Jordan attempts to train Stewart in the use of the Power Ring, which operates through the Corps' methods and willpower, the duo finds themselves embroiled in a mystery involving the deep secrets of a small community.
During the panel, the creators of the series presented a new trailer for the show, which will premiere on HBO on August 16. The trailer reveals the threat the duo faces, leading them to seemingly be involved in a normal murder: the Manhunters. Created by comic book legend Jack Kirby, the Manhunters were the first attempt to form a space police force for the Guardians of the Universe; however, the shape-shifting robots rebelled and became enemies of the Green Lantern Corps. The trailer also gives us our first look at Ulrich Thomsen's Sinestro, Hal Jordan's former friend and mentor; this fallen character is now a prisoner of the Corps. We will learn the answers to why the Manhunters have come to Earth and what identities they have assumed when the Lanterns series premieres.
