Disney is preparing to enchant audiences once again with the live action adaptation of "Moana," set to hit theaters on July 10. Starring Catherine Laga’aia, this new version follows Moana's journey to reclaim the heart of Te Fiti and her efforts to help the people of Motunui. Dwayne Johnson reprises his role as the shape-shifting demigod Maui, accompanying Moana on this adventure.
As in the original animated film, the characters who join Moana on her journey are also returning. Jemaine Clement continues to voice the CGI version of Tamatoa, known for his obsession with shiny things. Additionally, new faces will be introduced to the story; Laga’aia is taking her first step into film with this project.
The chaotic animal sidekicks Pua and Heihei from the animated film will also accompany Moana on her sea voyage, giving audiences a chance to see their beloved characters once again.
Catherine Laga’aia portrays Moana, a brave young girl who embraces her love for the sea, a character introduced by Auli’i Cravalho ten years ago with the song "How Far I’ll Go." Born in Sydney, Australia, 19-year-old Laga’aia previously played the young Candy character in the series "The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart." Her father, Jay Laga’aia, is also a well-known performer, having appeared as Tycho Celchu in the "Star Wars" films.
