Marvel fans have enjoyed a lot of content on Disney Plus this year. Two live-action series, Wonder Man and Daredevil: Born Again, have captured viewers' attention. Wonder Man, featuring stars like Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley, unexpectedly received a second season renewal. Daredevil: Born Again has also started filming its third season, reuniting Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio. Marvel is preparing to bring fans back to theaters with Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the first MCU film of 2026. This film is expected to connect directly to Avengers: Doomsday, which premieres on December 18. However, before fans take their seats in cinemas, Marvel's highest-rated project of all time, X-Men '97, has returned to fill that gap.
X-Men '97 has made its anticipated return this week with its second season after a two-year hiatus. Marvel fans have started analyzing the potential connections of the series with other projects. Notably, at the end of Season 2, Episode 3 of X-Men '97, Magneto's voice actor Matthew Waterson was credited in another role as Celestial Eson. Although Eson did not appear in the 2021 film Eternals, he had a brief return scene in 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1. Additionally, Eson is known as the main antagonist in the Guardians of the Galaxy attraction at Disney World. Waterson is not the only actor voicing multiple characters in X-Men '97; Ross Marquand voices both Professor X and Apocalypse, while Jennifer Hale voices Jean Grey and more than five other characters.
The latest reports about a potential sequel to Eternals indicate that the film was once planned but was shelved after the original film underperformed at the box office. Marvel invested $200 million in the production of Eternals, but the film earned only $402 million worldwide, falling significantly short of the studio's expectations. Time will tell if Marvel has bigger plans for Eternals in Avengers: Doomsday or any other future projects.
