Lena Headey's New Project Beacon 23 Received Negative Reviews from Critics
Collider
Beacon 23, starring Lena Headey, is a psychological sci-fi series set in the 23rd century that premiered on the MGM+ platform in 2023. However, the series was canceled after its second season and received a lukewarm response from both viewers and critics. Still, it stands out as a production worth watching for Headey's fans.
In the series, Headey plays the character Aster, a type of government agent. Aster finds herself trapped in one of a series of lighthouses due to an accident. This lighthouse serves as a kind of light guide for intergalactic travelers. Here, Aster meets Halan (Stephan James), whom she initially approaches with suspicion and hostility. However, over time, they discover that being enemies might be more beneficial than being friends.
The second season of the series aired in April 2024, and the lighthouse where Aster and Halan are located has now turned into a prison. This situation, which can be summarized as "Without an uncertain future, the residents of Beacon 23 must rely on each other," further deepens the dynamics between the characters. Aster and Halan must collaborate with the structure's artificial intelligence to survive.
Beacon 23 represents a new direction in Headey's career following Game of Thrones. Known for her character Cersei Lannister, Headey presents a different character to audiences in this new project. Although the series has received negative comments from critics, it offers viewers an intriguing experience in terms of Headey's performance and character development.
