Another star has joined the shark survival genre: Kate Beckinsale. According to Hollywood Reporter, the star of Serendipity and Aviator has joined the action film White, directed by Jake West (Evil Dead). She will co-star with Katherine McNamara (Shadowhunters, Maze Runner: The Death Cure). The screenplay was written by Dan Schaffer, the author and illustrator of the cult comic book series Dogwitch. Beckinsale will also serve as one of the film's producers.

The film tells the story of an actress named Willa Harba, who is trying to make a big break. When Willa goes abroad for a shoot with a self-absorbed star, their private jet crashes into the Pacific Ocean. As the sole survivor, she finds herself stranded on a broken wing with nothing but ocean around her. Her only hope for rescue is a satellite phone she salvaged from the wreckage. However, when she makes a distress call, demanding studio head Barbara (Beckinsale) ignores her. Instead, the signal is picked up by marine biologist Sam Swatek (McNamara), who reports that Willa has fallen into the famous White Shark Café, where great white sharks gather to feed.

Casting for Willa's role is ongoing, and principal photography is planned to begin this summer in Bulgaria, England, and the USA. White is produced by Yariv Lerner (Rambo: Last Blood, Hellboy), Dominic Burns (Jay and Silent Bob Reboot), Crawford Anderson-Dillon (5lbs of Pressure), and Sky Morfopoulos (Wildcat). Among the film's producers, in addition to Beckinsale, are Arianne Fraser of Highland Film Group, Delphine Perrier, Patrick Wintersgill, Kevin Glynn, Pauric Duffy, and Hannah Leader.
