At the closing ceremony of the 60th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, Aung Phyoe's film "Fruit Gathering" won the top award, the Grand Prix - Crystal Globe. This year's festival was an event where many significant productions competed and highlighted memorable moments in the film world.
The Special Jury Award was given to Mads Mengel's film "The Guest." The film features talented actors such as Trine Dyrholm, Simon Bennebjerg, and Josephine Park. The jury described "Fruit Gathering" as a rich and meditative portrait of work and friendship, emphasizing that the film unexpectedly transformed into a drama focusing on obsession and queer desire. "The Guest," on the other hand, was regarded as a comedic and profound drama that explores themes like motherhood, responsibility towards children, and mental illness.
Mads Mengel won the Best Director award for "The Guest," providing audiences with an unforgettable experience through a cleverly directed cast. Hollywood Reporter praised Dyrholm's performance and noted the film's similarities to "Festen." This was seen as a bold choice that captured the audience's attention.
The Best Actress award went to Anna Schinz for her role in the Swiss social drama "A Happy Family." The Best Actor award was received by Ghassan Saad for his role in Lebanese director Karim Kassem's film "Pipes." These awards once again showcased the festival's impact on the international cinema scene.
