Renowned artist and director Julian Schnabel will be honored for his works at this year's Lucca Film Festival. The festival announced on Friday that it will present Schnabel with a Lifetime Achievement Award. This award is given to celebrate the artist's contributions and impact in the world of cinema.

Schnabel will participate in the festival in Tuscany and will take part in a public masterclass. Lucca will showcase a retrospective of the artist's films, including his latest work, "In the Hand of Dante." This film is adapted from Nick Tosches’ 2002 novel and features star names like Oscar Isaac, Gal Gadot, and Gerard Butler. Additionally, Jason Momoa, Al Pacino, and Martin Scorsese also appear in the film. "In the Hand of Dante" premiered out of competition at the Venice Film Festival last year.

Schnabel will receive his award during the screening of "In the Hand of Dante." The director's career began in the 1980s when he became known for his "plate paintings" on the New York art scene. Schnabel made his directorial debut with the biographical film "Basquiat" in 1996, which marked a significant breakthrough for him. "Basquiat" premiered in Venice and grossed over $3 million.

Schnabel's next film, "Before Night Falls" (2000), also premiered in Venice, where Javier Bardem's performance won the Special Jury Prize and the Best Actor Silver Lion award. This film achieved independent success, grossing over $8.6 million worldwide. Schnabel’s third feature film, "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly" (2007), won the Best Director award at Cannes and is remembered as an impressive adaptation of Jean-Dominique Bauby's life.
