The beloved young adult romantic comedy Heartstopper on Netflix is coming to an end this week. Typically, the end of a Netflix series is not definitive; many shows are abruptly canceled after one or two seasons. A series that has lasted three seasons is a success story, and the completion of a narrative is never guaranteed. Therefore, while the end of Heartstopper is sad for its fans, the fact that the series is bidding farewell on its own terms is a reason to celebrate.
Launched in 2022, the series cheerfully tells the love story between two boys, gaining immediate attention contrary to the usual pessimism often seen in such narratives. With a 98% critic score and 95% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, it has become one of the rare shows that brings together both viewers and critics. In Heartstopper, the conclusion of Nick Nelson (Kit Connor) and Charlie Spring's (Joe Locke) story presents them with a new challenge.
Heartstopper will conclude on July 17 with a film titled Heartstopper Forever. The series has always progressed with 30-minute episodes, but creator Alice Oseman believed that wrapping up Charlie and Nick's story with a movie was the best way to go. Years have passed since their first meeting, and their relationship has grown stronger, but as life unfolds, people begin to discover new things. While Nick receives a call to attend university, Charlie has one more year of school and is finally starting to enjoy it. The couple faces the age-old question of modern relationships: Is long-distance love possible, no matter what the feelings are between the two sides? First loves are wonderful, but can they last forever?
