Grey's Anatomy Star Kevin McKidd Comments on Arthur Weasley Role in HBO's Harry Potter Series
Screen Rant
Kevin McKidd, the famous actor from Grey's Anatomy, responded to rumors that he would play the character Arthur Weasley in HBO's Harry Potter series. Speculation about McKidd potentially being considered for the role intensified after Gracie Cochrane, who plays Ginny Weasley in the Harry Potter series, began following the actor on social media. In the finale of the 22nd season of the medical drama Grey's Anatomy, which has been airing for 18 years, McKidd bid farewell to the show.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, McKidd said about the rumors: "I've seen a few things about this. Listen, I would never say no. I'm a huge Harry Potter fan." He explained that part of his interest stemmed from receiving an offer to play "a sort of werewolf character" in the last two Harry Potter films, but he had to turn it down due to being committed to another project.
McKidd shared, "When I did a show called Journeyman, it was before Grey's. That show was in a precarious position, and we were waiting to see if it would be picked up for a second season. I was under contract, and director David Yates sent me a letter with an offer for a role in the last two Harry Potter films. Because I was waiting to see if Journeyman would be picked up, I couldn't do it, and unfortunately, it wasn't. I missed the chance to be in the last two Harry Potter films back then, and it still makes me sad."
Given this background, McKidd expressed excitement at the idea of being offered the role of Arthur Weasley, saying, "The thought of getting another chance at a role I was wanted for before is really exciting to me. Listen, if these rumors could turn into something real, I would be very happy about it." According to McKidd's comments, it is possible that he was previously offered the role of Fenrir Greyback (the werewolf character), portrayed by Dave Legeno in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
The character Arthur Weasley first appears in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and plays a significant recurring role throughout the series as an important member of the Weasley family and the Order of the Phoenix. In the films, this character was played by Mark Williams and appeared in all films except for the Philosopher's Stone. HBO has not yet announced the casting for Arthur Weasley, as the character does not appear in the Philosopher's Stone (the foundation of the first season), meaning he will not be part of the first season's cast. However, the second season of Harry Potter has been confirmed, and production will begin in the fall. Considering McKidd's departure from Grey's Anatomy, Harry Potter could become a long-term television role.
