Dragon Striker: Disney's New Favorite Replacing Avatar
Screen Rant
Avatar: The Last Airbender is one of the most popular animated series worldwide, boasting a massive fan base. This series has raised the standards expected from fantasy cartoons and has inspired many creators and viewers with its meaningful messages and unforgettable characters. However, recently released by Disney, Dragon Striker stands out as an exception that has proven itself in this field. Comprising only 11 episodes, this series offers an equally imaginative adventure that Avatar fans will fall in love with.
Dragon Striker premiered on Disney XD on June 9, 2026, and the entire series was made available to viewers on the Disney+ platform the following day. Created by Sylvain Dos Santos and Charles Lefebvre, the series was produced in collaboration with La Chouette Compagnie and Disney Television Animation. Disney announced at Anime Expo 2026 that the second season will arrive in early 2027. Like the first season, the second season will also consist of 11 episodes and will be broadcast on Disney XD and Disney+.
At the center of the series is Key, a young farmer boy with a powerful latent talent. Key discovers that he is the son of a legendary Gorotama player and enrolls in the Kal Asterock Academy. Here, students compete in Gorotama, a football-inspired sport that utilizes talents known as Tamas. While training to master his Tamas with his new friends, Key also uncovers the dark secrets of his school.
The early episodes focus on Key and his friends' efforts to participate in official Gorotama matches, but as the series progresses, it presents a broader storyline. Throughout Key's time at the floating academy, he encounters various teams and authority figures, becoming involved in the larger mystery and conflict of the series. As an epic sports fantasy, Dragon Striker has the potential to be one of the greatest cartoons Disney has to offer.
