Amazon MGM Studios is restructuring its World Building Series team. This change encompasses large-scale genre television projects; for example, productions like The Lord of the Rings. During the restructuring process, Matthew King and Adrienne O’Riain are departing the team.

This restructuring is a continuation of a previous reorganization. In January, global TV head Peter Friedlander had established genre-based teams for existing and developing programs. These teams were designated as 1) Drama and Comedy, 2) World Building (fantasy, sci-fi, etc.), 3) Animation, and 4) Unscripted content. At that time, Laura Lancaster and Nick Pepper left the team, replaced by Jenn Levy (Unscripted) and Melissa Wolfe (Animation); Blair Fetter joined Amazon MGM Studios as the head of the World Building team. Fetter aims to manage the team with a flatter and more streamlined structure.

Fetter appointed Tom Lieber for creative work; World Building expert Liz Mackintosh is moving to the Drama team. Amazon MGM Studios is still searching for a leader for the Drama and Comedy team. Kara Smith, Michael McDonald, and Jen Chambers will temporarily oversee comedy, drama, and young adult programming.

Fetter stated that they are enhancing their structures to allow the team to operate more autonomously. These changes will enable the team to be more flexible and agile while Amazon MGM Studios continues to develop more ambitious projects on a global scale.
