They are known as Dikpalas.Though frequently mentioned, they are rarely worshiped. The Dikpalas of the cardinal points are Kubera North, Yama South, Indra East and Varuna West. He also discusses the Dikapalas of the intermediate points and their significance in Hindu mythology. The images of these Dikapalas are found on the walls and ceilings of temples and tombs.
