'Fast and Furious' Icon Admits the Saga Has Officially "Lost Our Way" [Exclusive]

The Fast & Furious franchise has spent years getting bigger, louder and increasingly untethered from the street-racing world where it began. Its characters have launched cars between skyscrapers, travelled to space and repeatedly saved the planet, but one of its longest-serving stars believes the series may need to rediscover the community that made it resonate in the first place. After stepping behind the camera for a far more personal automotive project, Sung Kang is hoping to carry some of those lessons back to the Fast family. Speaking with Collider’s Perri Nemiroff at San Diego Comic-Con about his independent film Drifter, Kang admitted that the Fast & Furious franchise may have “lost our way to a degree.” “I don’t know if that’s in my pay grade to even influence what the Fast world is going to be, but I will speak up and not to be a squeaky wheel, but to share what I’ve learned making Drifter, to share how amazing this car community is,” Kang said. “Perhaps I’ll go back to why the Fast & Furious franchise resonated with so many people globally. Maybe we lost our way to a degree. Maybe we can come back to that.
