Years and Years
Written by Russell T. Davies, this six-part series focuses on the Lyons family's transformation over the years. In post-Brexit England, political approaches have become quite populist, Donald Trump has been re-elected in the U.S., and China's global influence has grown. Augmented reality, artificial intelligence, and implant technologies have increasingly permeated our lives. The rising digitalization has significantly strained family members and their relationships, making intergenerational communication quite challenging. The series is set in England about 4-5 years from now. It successfully portrays the socio-economic tensions of the time and the political situation in the world through the lens of a large family in England. It conveys the impact of technology on human relationships much better than the recent episodes of Black Mirror. Our ability to connect with the characters also plays a significant role in this. Topics such as immigrants and the rising right, along with politicians' use of mass fear and 'save the children,' are also addressed.
