Upload takes place in 2033, during a time when people near death can upload themselves to a virtual afterlife of their choosing. Nora, a secret romantic born in Brooklyn, works in customer service for a luxury virtual reality company. When handsome Nathan, who attends parties in Los Angeles, gets into an accident with his self-driving car, his girlfriend uploads him permanently into the virtual reality world of the company where Nora works.
