The aftermath of this event is devastating: both parents die, Ana Laura loses a leg, and Ana Lucía, unconscious, is swept away by the river’s current. Only Ana Leticia, who actually caused the accident, emerges unhurt. Soledad, a woman deeply affected by her daughter’s death, helps Ana Lucía, whom she finds in agony. Although Soledad learns who the girl is, she exploits her memory loss about the accident and her family, deciding to keep her and make her believe she is her mother. Despite everyone declaring Ana Lucía dead, Ernestina, the triplets' grandmother, and Ramiro, their uncle, refuse to give up and do everything they can to find Ana Lucía. But as the years pass, so does their hope.
