Tre kronor was a Swedish soap opera that aired on TV4 from 1994 to 1999. The series was set in the fictional middle-class suburb of Mälarviken, located near Stockholm. The exteriors were filmed in Sätra, a suburb of Stockholm, while the interiors were shot in a studio in Kvarnholmen and Kungens Kurva. Tre kronor aired during the same period as Rederiet on SVT, and both shows competed for viewers, each attracting around 1-2 million viewers. TV4 launched Tre kronor in 1994 to vie for the audience of Rederiet. The theme song was composed by Lasse Holm. The spin-off movie Reine och Mimmi i fjällen! was based on two characters, Reine and Mimmi. The series concluded dramatically, with all characters except six fatally injured in a suicide bombing at the local restaurant Tre Kronor, perpetrated by a priest. Two major cliffhangers included Hans Wästberg, played by Ulf Brunnberg, robbing a post office and accidentally shooting his son Hans-Åke. Hans Wästberg was imprisoned and vanished from the series after the second season. Season Three ended with Sirpa "Bimbo" Koskinen, the girlfriend of Hans-Åke Wästberg, dying in a bus crash. Salongo, portrayed by Richard Sseruwagi, was a refugee and wealthy businessman from Uganda who fell in love with a married policewoman, Lena Sjökvist, played by Catharine Hansson, and later purchased the restaurant Tre Kronor. As the series progressed, Salongo acquired another restaurant and also disappeared from the show.
