'The Verdict Is Yours' premiered on September 2, 1957, as part of the CBS Daytime lineup. Unscripted, the show showcased real lawyers portraying the lawyers and judge. The defendants and witnesses were professional actors who improvised their dialogue, although they were provided with a general outline of what they were meant to say. Sportscaster Jim McKay was the original reporter, offering commentary on the trials. He was succeeded in 1960 by newsman Bill Stout.
