The shared name of the comic book and animated series created by Belgian artist Pierre Culliford. It first appeared as a comic book in 1958. It tells the adventures of the cute little blue creatures known as the Smurfs, who live in a peaceful village and try to outsmart the wizard Gargamel with their intelligence.
